Our Vision and Mission
For many years, Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche and Pema Wangyal Rinpoche publicly talked about the need to train a new generation of translators, as the first generation of translators was getting old.
In this context, they also said that something needed to be done to improve the competencies of dharma translators.
Finally, in 2019, Jigme Khyentse Rinpoche said that the conditions were right to start a Tibetan translation training program. During 2020, there was a successful pilot project, and in 2021, this program was launched. Rinpoche named it Dharma Sagar, or “Ocean of Dharma.” (Registered as Associação Oceano de Dharma in Portugal).
Since then the program is focusing in training Portuguese and Spanish speakers, especially natives from Latin America. The training is currently offered free of charge (thanks to the support of generous donors) to currently 19 high-potential students from Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Mexico, and Spain.
Our goal in training dharma translators is solely to help beings attain liberation, therefore our program can be said to be bodhicitta-based.
May the activity of translating precious dharma texts continue into the future by increasing the number of highly trained, qualified, and bodhicitta-driven translators.
